East Bay Sailing Foundation (EBSF) encourages both juniors and adult participants to learn to sail and race through various programs. The programs include Adult Sailing and Junior Sailing, and each is further divided into a Sailing Program and a Race Program. Junior Program
The Junior Program consists of a Sailing Program and a Racing Program, available in three different types of boat.
The Sailing Programs are 2 week sessions focused on building student skills and self-confidence through instruction in small boat sailing. The Sailing Program is held Monday to Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and includes Beginner Mercury, Beginner Optimist, and the Adventure Sailing class. These sailing programs are tailored for sailors of all skill levels from age 8-16.
The Racing Program has a number of options depending on the level and interest of the sailor.
For the beginner we have the introduction to racing programs of Optimist Green Race and Introduction to 420 Race. These 4 week programs meeting Monday - Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and students can sign up for 1 or 2 sessions. These classes will focus on building racing skills and help sailor prepare for future racing opportunities.
The Optimist Race Program is changing for the 2016 season. The class will be held Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and student can register for 4, 6 or 8 weeks. Racers will be encouraged to participate in regattas in Bristol and around the bay.
The 420 Racing Program is an 8 week program for students who have mastered their sailing and seamanship skills and want to hone the skills needed for individual and team competitive racing. In addition to practice, racers will also be encouraged to participate in regattas in Bristol and around the bay. The racing program meets Monday/Wednesday/Friday.
All of the Racing Programs are bring your boat programs. EBSF maintains a limited number of boats for charter to race team participants, indicate if you need a charter when you register and the program director will contact you about availability.
Adult Sailing Program
The Adult Mercury Program accommodates all knowledge levels. Beginning classes are an introduction to sailing with no experience necessary, having an instructor in every boat at all times. The Intermediate class is for people with some sailing experience desiring to improve boat handling skills, and introducing new skills not covered in the beginner class. The Advanced classes are for experienced sailors who wish to continue sharpening their skills. The finer points of sail trim and boat handling are covered, as well as an introduction to racing, strategy, and spinnaker handling. Safety on the water is a large focus in all classes.
The Adult Sailing Program is provided in 8 week sessions of 1 day a week and meets Tuesday (Beginner class only) or Thursday from 6-9 PM or on Fridays from 1-4 PM. June 12th - August 4th
Women's J22 Sailing is offered Mondays 5:30 - 7:30 in two 6 week sessions. Session 1 runs from June 5th - July 10th, Session 2 runs July 17th - August 21st. Sailing experience is necessary. This class is meant to be a fun, low pressure way to get out on the water with friends or make some new ones. Click here to learn more.
Advance J22 Sailing is offered in an 8 week session June 12th - August 4th Tuesdays 6:00 - 9:00. Sailing experience is necessary, this class requires solid fundament sailing skills. Sailors will learn advance sail trim, spinnaker work, working as a member of a keel boat team, basic racing strategy, and emergency procedures. Click here to learn more
